The key changes to the prior set of rules are:

• Updated Part 3, “Divisions”, to revise our targeted age-group brackets
• Updated Part 3, “Divisions”, to adopt a policy of grouping teams in league play according to expected ability, and not just each team’s registration level
• Updated Part 4, “Preseason Timelines”, to clarify that preliminary brackets will be posted for public review before preliminary schedules are produced, and to require each club to participate in an in-person scheduling meeting prior to the start of each season
• Updated Part 7, “Rosters and Club Pass”, to be consistent with changes in STYSA’s club pass rules
• Updated Part 10, “Playing Rules”, to limit the number of male players on the field in D3 coed matches
• Updated Part 10, “Playing Rules”, to prohibit goalkeepers from punting or drop-kicking the ball in D3 coed matches
• Updated Part 12, “Non-Competitive Matches”, to require the dominant team to reduce playing numbers immediately once a match has become non-competitive
• Updated Part 12, “Non-Competitive Matches”, to allow teams to agree to finalize a non-competitive match at halftime, and then play a “mixed squad” mini-game in place of the second half
• Updated Part 15, “Non-Performance and Forfeits”, to clarify that reviews of the 50% playing time rule shall be conducted as “administrative” actions, and not as an official “game protest”

• Updated Part 2, “Entry and Eligibility”, to prohibit SYSA teams from playing in non-SYSA leagues without advance approval of the SYSA Board of Directors
• Updated Part 3, “Divisions”, to permit a 3-team “mini-division” in the Spring season only
• Updated Part 10, “Playing Rules”, to clarify rules specific to D3 coed matches

Are you interested in coaching a U11-U19 Division 2 (D2) team next year?  Team formation for the fall select soccer season will be starting next month, so now is the time to talk with your club’s Directors to get involved!

We have posted a letter with an application form that you’ll need to download, read, and submit to your club for approval.  Among other important items, this document details the dates that tryouts can be held for next year’s D2 teams, when offers may be made to players, and what qualifications coaches must have to coach at the D2 level.

• SYSA League Rules 180108

The main changes to the prior set of rules are:

• SYSA may include teams from non-SYSA clubs in our league competitions provided those teams are registered under another US Youth Soccer member association.
• SYSA now has specific, objective criteria to follow when determining whether a team will be required to play at a higher competitive level than the one for which they initially registered.
• The preseason timeline and procedures for bracketing and scheduling have been updated and clarified.
• The conditions and procedures for including the results of league exhibition matches in the final standings (in place of unplayed matches) have been clarified.
• SYSA has added the option to use the virtual (online) GotSoccer roster in lieu of physical player ID cards for pre-game check-in provided certain conditions have been met.
• SYSA has re-affirmed that U15 and older D3 (rec) teams will play using a small-sided (7v7) format going forward.  Note that U15 and older D2 (select) teams will continue to play full-sided (11v11) games.
• The rules now contain modified provisions for coed matches at the U15 and older age groups.
• The requirements for non-competitive matches have been changed.  These games will no longer be truncated, but will now require the dominant team to remove one or more players for as long as the game remains non-competitive.
